What the AFM looks like
The AFM is a nine-digit number issued by the Greek tax office (DOY) and managed online through Taxisnet / myAADE. It is yours for life and never changes.
It is not the same as the AMKA (your social-security number) — the AFM is purely your tax identity, while the AMKA covers health and social insurance.
You need an AFM in Greece to:
- Open a Greek bank account
- Sign a rental contract or buy property
- Work, freelance or start a company
- Connect utilities (electricity, water, internet)
- Buy or register a car
- File taxes or receive any income in Greece
- Apply for the Golden Visa or a residence permit
- Inherit assets or sign a notarial deed
How we help
We obtain the AFM for residents and non-residents alike — preparing the file, dealing with the DOY and, where needed, acting as your tax representative so you never have to fly in just for a number.
